Pastor Emeritus

Warren E. Colegrove

It may seem strange for a new church plant to have a Pastor Emeritus. But in this case it seems appropriate. Warren and Beverly Colegrove and their three children moved to  Sault Ste. Marie in 1954, two years before Pastor James Colegrove was born, to start a church in Sault Ste. Marie that would preach the Word of God, with the Apostolic doctrine of salvation.  Meetings were first held in houses, including Elder Colegrove's home on Amanda Street.

He was helped greatly in his efforts early on by Rev. Darrell Sheets, who at that time was in the U. S. Army, stationed in the Soo at Camp Lucas.  Rev. Sheets went on to pastor a church in Wood River, Illinois, and later was a missionary in Haiti.  He has since gone to be with the Lord.

In January of 1955 Warren Colegrove was able to puchase what had been an old chicken coop and after much labor was able to clean it up and modify it into a church building.

Later property was purchased at 2000 Ryan, and a basement sanctuary was built which served as the church for several years and in 1966, the building was completed.

After Elder Colegrove moved on to other projects, several other ministers came to pastor here, but the work dwindled, the work was ultimately shut down, and the building sold.

Thank God, this is not the last chapter in the story.  God is once again moving on behalf of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and the vision that Rev. W. E. Colegrove had so many years ago is once again alive.
